This page will help you to sort out your school recycling systems and provides ideas to reduce waste across the school.
Good waste management in schools is a truly cooperative effort. The whole school needs to be on board, from the youngest pupils to the senior management, from cleaners to teachers. Everyone plays a part!
Estimates reckon that schools in the UK produce ¼ million or 250,000 tonnes of waste per year. Despite the average recycling rate for households being about 54% in Devon, only about 20% of school waste is recycled. Our Watch Our Waste programme has a proven track record of helping schools increase those recycling rates to around 70-80%.
Better waste management in schools will reduce cost, improve sustainability, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase compliance with new waste regulations.
